Mass converter — kg, g, lb, oz, stone and tonnes
Weigh a parcel in pounds and ounces, price scrap metal in tonnes, or read a recipe written in grams — eleven mass units stay in view at the same time, and the figures below are exact, not rounded.
How to use it
- 1
Type into any row — say kg or lb. The results appear immediately, no button needed.
- 2
Need a combined figure? Fill in two rows, for example kg and g, and they are added together before converting.
- 3
Set how many digits you want (4–12) and click a result to copy the plain number.
Exact conversion factors
These are the definitions the calculator uses. Nothing here is rounded for convenience — where a value is exact by definition, it says so.
- 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg exactly (1959 international agreement)
- 1 kg = 2.20462262 lb = 35.2739619 oz
- 1 oz = 28.3495231 g · 1 st = 6.35029318 kg
- 1 t = 1000 kg · 1 US ton = 907.18474 kg · 1 UK ton = 1016.0469088 kg
kg = lb × 0.45359237 · lb = kg ÷ 0.45359237 · g = kg × 1000 · oz = lb × 16Mass conversion table — every unit

How this converter works
Most converters make you pick a pair of units and then start over when the pair changes. This one works the other way round: whatever you type in any field becomes part of one total, and every other unit updates from that total. Enter 2 lb in one row and 6 oz in another and you get a single answer of 1077.28 g, not two separate ones.
The pound used here is the international avoirdupois pound of exactly 0.453 592 37 kg, agreed between the English-speaking standards bodies in 1959. Everything imperial on the page — ounce, stone, short ton, long ton — is derived from that one number, so results stay consistent no matter which row you start in.
Notes and abbreviations
- t — tonne, the metric ton of 1000 kg (not the same as a US or UK ton)
- lb — pound; 16 oz make a pound, 14 lb make a stone
- US ton — short ton, 2000 lb; UK ton — long ton, 2240 lb
- ct — metric carat, fixed at 200 mg and used for gemstones
Questions
Is a tonne the same as a ton?
No. A tonne is 1000 kg. A US short ton is 907.18474 kg and a UK long ton is 1016.0469088 kg — a 12 percent spread between the three.
How do I convert my weight from stone to kilograms?
Put the stone figure in the stone row and the leftover pounds in the pound row. 11 st and 4 lb comes out as 71.668 kg.
Why does the ounce field show a long decimal?
An ounce is 28.349523125 g exactly, so most conversions land on a repeating figure. Lower the precision selector if you want a rounder answer.
