How this converter works

Two numbers cover most everyday work: 1 bar is 14.5 psi, and standard atmospheric pressure is 1013.25 mbar or 14.7 psi. A car tyre at 2.2 bar is sitting at 31.9 psi, which is why both scales appear on garage gauges.

Everything on the page is gauge-independent — it converts the number you type, not the reference it was measured against. If your source reads in absolute pressure (bara, psia) and your target expects gauge (barg, psig), subtract one atmosphere before or after converting; the converter cannot know which you meant.

Notes and abbreviations

  • mbar and hPa are the same size — weather maps use them interchangeably

2.2063 bar. Going back, 2.5 bar is 36.2594 psi.

Are hPa and mbar the same?

Yes, exactly. A reading of 1013 hPa and 1013 mbar describe identical pressure.

Does this handle absolute versus gauge pressure?

It converts magnitudes only. For gauge to absolute, add 1.01325 bar yourself.
