How this converter works

Type 2.5 in the billions row and read 2500 in millions, 2 500 000 in thousands and 2 500 000 000 in units. Because entries are summed, mixed statements work too: 3 millions plus 250 thousands gives 3 250 000.

The scale used here is the short scale — a billion is a thousand million — which is standard in English-language finance and journalism. Some European sources use the long scale, where a billion means a million million; if a translated document looks a thousand times off, that is usually why.
