These are the definitions the calculator uses. Nothing here is rounded for convenience — where a value is exact by definition, it says so.

How this converter works

Pick the scale you are reading from, type the number, and the rest fill in. Negative values, decimals and the awkward ones like −40 (identical in Celsius and Fahrenheit) all work.

The arithmetic, if you want to do it by hand: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32, and K = °C + 273.15. Rankine is the Fahrenheit-sized cousin of Kelvin, used in some US thermodynamics work; Réaumur is a historical scale with water boiling at 80° that still turns up in old recipes and cheese-making instructions.
